There was an earlier, more rock-oriented incarnation of Coroner formed between 1983 and 1985, featuring Marquis Marky and Oliver Amberg. According to Oliver Amberg, the band played several gigs and recorded one demo in 1983 with Oliver Amberg on vocals, bass, and guitar, and Marky on drums. This is also mentioned in the "Rewind" documentation, where the cover of the demo is also shown, and band pictures are displayed (plus some music played in the background). In early 1985, the band split up, but was reformed by Marky a few months later with a new lineup as a thrash metal band known as Coroner again, retaining the same logo as the old band. The band reunited in June 2010, announcing that they would play Hellfest Summer Open Air 2011. Later on, they announced more dates in Europe as well as in North America. Tommy and Marky were roadies for Celtic Frost on the Tragic Serenades tour. Tom G. Warrior (Celtic Frost, Apollyon Sun, Hellhammer, Triptykon) was never a member of Coroner. He only performed guest vocals on the Death Cult demo.
